Supporting Those Left Behind

A grant-making charity advocating for excluded youths

Our Mission

WAVE Berwick aims to empower young people in North Northumberland who have been excluded from mainstream education, including those who are now home‑schooled as a result of exclusion.

School exclusion can cause or intensify social, emotional, and mental health challenges, which can be difficult to overcome without the right support. This is true not only for pupils formally in alternative provision, but also for those learning at home who may be even more isolated and disconnected from support networks.

Fortunately, there are alternative provisions, youth groups, community projects, and home‑education support networks in the area doing fantastic work to meet these young people’s needs: developing their skills, confidence, and capabilities; advancing their education; promoting good mental health and well‑being; reducing barriers to future employment; and enhancing their quality of life through positive recreational and social experiences.

Through grant funding, WAVE Berwick empowers these organisations, and the families and networks supporting home‑schooled excluded young people to continue the life‑changing impact they make in young people’s lives.
