Paul
Chair
Paul is the Chair of WAVE Berwick and the Director of EBI Learning, an alternative education provider supporting young people who have been excluded from mainstream school. Through his role at EBI Learning, Paul works directly with excluded young people daily, giving him deep, practical insight into the challenges they face, and the support required to help them re‑engage, rebuild confidence, and thrive.
Paul brings extensive experience in education, safeguarding, and youth development, alongside a strong commitment to community‑based support. He is a private family man and enjoys both watching and playing sport, including running, cycling, swimming and football. He previously worked as a triathlon coach, reflecting his long‑standing interest in health, wellbeing and resilience.
An interesting and powerful part of Paul’s background is that he was awarded a Police Silver Brave Person Award after disarming a gunman and saving a woman’s life, demonstrating exceptional courage, calm judgment, and a strong sense of responsibility for others. These values underpin his leadership at WAVE Berwick, where safeguarding, inclusion and opportunity remain at the heart of the charity’s work.
Becky
Trustee & Operations
Becky is a trustee and is head of operations at WAVE Berwick with a strong commitment to equity, community, and social impact. Her professional background as an Executive Officer at the Home Office has developed her ability to make balanced, evidence‑based decisions while working empathetically with people in complex and vulnerable situations.
Becky’s leadership style is collaborative and purpose‑driven. She is the founder and Chair of Wee Wildlings, a community project established in 2020 to reduce isolation and improve wellbeing for families in rural areas, leading sustainable growth and the development of inclusive community assets.
With academic qualifications in Psychology and Public Health, and direct experience supporting vulnerable young people through youth work, mentoring, and research, Becky brings both professional expertise and lived understanding. Having experienced the loss of her father to suicide as a teenager, she is particularly committed to raising awareness of mental health and suicide prevention, especially for boys and young men. At WAVE Berwick, she helps ensure young people’s wellbeing, belonging, and future opportunities remain at the heart of the charity’s work.
Pam
Trustee
Pam is a Trustee of WAVE Berwick and has worked in education since 2005, bringing many years of experience supporting young people across a range of settings. Since 2020, she has worked in alternative provision, giving her valuable insight into the challenges faced by young people who are excluded from mainstream education and the importance of tailored, supportive approaches.
Having lived in Berwick all her life, Pam has a strong connection to the local community and a deep understanding of the needs of young people and families in the area. She is passionate about ensuring that vulnerable young people feel supported, included and able to access opportunities that help them thrive.
Outside of her professional life, Pam is a devoted family member with two grown‑up children and enjoys listening to music, gardening, and going on long walks with her partner.
Patrick
Trustee
Patrick is a Trustee of WAVE Berwick and a Partner and Business Advisor at Rennie Welch LLP, where he supports organisations with governance, finance, and strategic growth. As a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), Patrick brings strong financial oversight, risk management expertise, and commercial insight to the charity’s board.
Patrick also serves as a trustee of The Anita and Peter Laverack Family Trust, giving him valuable experience in grant‑making, charitable governance, and ensuring funding delivers meaningful public benefit. His combined professional and trustee experience strengthens WAVE Berwick’s financial stewardship and long‑term sustainability.
Outside of work, Patrick is a dedicated family man with two daughters, and he enjoys spending time with them, attending concerts and going out for meals together. At WAVE Berwick, Patrick is committed to ensuring the charity is well‑governed, financially robust, and able to maximise its impact for young people who have been excluded from mainstream education.
